Rights Without Borders: The Global Debate Over FGM
A little effort to highlight the brutal practice take place even in 2026.

In 2026, issues are still exposed the tension between universal human rights and local culture as sensitive as the topic of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The international consensus is clear the challenging debate is how the world should end it.
According to an estimate by several Independent bodies of around 4.5 million girls, many under 5 years, are at stake of FGM in 2026 partly and more than 230 million girls and women left with its life long painful consequences.
The most unfortunate part is that it's actually justified on grounds by using tradition, disguise and misuse as religion, or to ensure virginity, on basic humanitarian ground this in human act cannot be justified by using any circumstances as it's a clear violation of human dignity and rights.
Critics argue that rights campaigns can look like a cultural imposition, enforcing a colonial attitude about "saving" women of the global south. While the supporters of universalism respond that culture cannot allow anyone to harm including children, girls and women and that many of the prominent figures and strongest opponents of FGM lives ones inside the factor communities like a super model and FGM survivor "Waris Dirie", an activist and FGM survivor "Jaha Dukureh".That together point matters, local efforts and survivor campaign to address grassroot groups to end that brutal practice.
The FMG debate is not about how wrong the practice is, but it's about the world that can pair moral consideration with humility! as global norms and societal taboos are carried by local voices. Rights of every human are universal but changes rarely arrive from outside alone.
